Playgrounds

Indian Trail Park PlaygroundDPR manages 55 playgrounds throughout the City! Playgrounds provide a safe place for children to play, connect, and learn.

Playground Safety Tips

Please follow these guidelines to ensure safe play:

  • Adult supervision is recommended. Active supervision can prevent playground injuries.
  • Choose play equipment that is appropriate for the child’s age. Follow posted signs indicating appropriate age.
  • Check the area for hazards before allowing children to play, i.e. broken equipment, broken glass, trip hazards. If you find a hazard, please do not allow your child to play near or around it. Please report any hazards to Amy Pehowic, 919-560-4355, ext. 27212.
  • Remove helmets before playing on playground. Avoid wearing scarves, drawstrings, or other types of clothing that could get caught on equipment and become a strangulation hazard.
  • Check to make sure equipment isn’t too hot! Play equipment that is in the sun can get very hot.
  • Keep small children from putting pieces of playground mulch into their mouths.
  • As with visiting any public spaces, wash hands after playing on the playground, and especially before eating.

Playground Closures & Repairs

Old Farm Road Park Playground Closed

Frequent flooding has damaged many of the playground structures at Old Farm Road Park. The play structures will be removed due to safety concerns. DPR has requested City funding for new playgrounds out of the Eno Floodway. DPR is working with community members to develop a new plan for the playground at Old Farm Road Park and River Forest Park. Be on the lookout for opportunities to participate in community playground designs this fall. Residents are encouraged to utilize the Holt School Road Park Playground at 4102 Holt School Road.

Duke Park Playground Updates

The tube slides attached to the tower structure at the Duke Park playground remain temporarily closed due to unsafe conditions created by the age of the equipment. We are currently waiting on the final replacement pieces to be delivered and installed. These are additional pieces that were discovered and need to be added before the slide can be reopened. We will reopen the slides when repairs have been completed. We anticipate this will take several more months to complete.

Lakeview Park Playground Installation

A new playground will be installed in the coming weeks at Lakeview Park. Crews will be removing the old access walks and installing a drainage outfall.  The crews will return in the weeks following the demolition and drainage work to install the playground. Please note: this work is weather dependent. Once installed, we ask that the playground equipment remains undisturbed until caution tape is removed to allow the concrete to cure and provide a safe and stable place for the equipment.

We apologize for any inconvenience. Please continue to check our website for playground updates.
