Youth tennis lessons

Durham Parks and Recreation (DPR) offers tennis leagues and lessons at a variety of Durham locations. Leagues and lessons are offered for all ages and abilities.

Tennis Leagues

DPR and the United States Tennis Association (USTA) provide recreational tennis programs for all players, regardless of skill. Visit the Adult Tennis Leagues page for details.

Tennis Lessons

DPR offers both Youth and Adult Tennis lessons.

Tennis Carnivals

Tennis carnivals are designed to introduce individuals of all ages to the tennis programs offered by Durham Parks and Recreation.

Tennis Community Open Play Days

DPR offers free Community Open Play Days on designated tennis courts. The Community Open Play is designed to give free tennis court access to all individuals and families. Courts are available on a first-come, first-serve basis, and we ask that you limit play to 1 hour while others are waiting. Lights will be on an automatic schedule or they can be turned on by a push button/switch. 

Tennis Community Open Play Days will be offered at the following parks:

  • Garrett Road Park - Tennis & Pickleball Court #6
  • Morreene Road Park - Tennis Court #5
  • Rock Quarry Park - Tennis Courts #1 & #2
  • Southern Boundaries Park - Tennis Courts #7 & #8
  • W.D. Hill Recreation Center - Tennis Court #1
  • Whippoorwill Park - Tennis Courts #1 & #2

Assigned Tennis Times at Bethesda Park

DPR has designated specific days and times at Bethesda Park Tennis Courts 1 & 2 for tennis play. Please see the Pickleball page for designated Pickleball times. 

Assigned times have been designated to provide opportunities for tennis and pickleball players to share these outdoor courts while our indoor facilities are closed for play due to COVID-19. This schedule will run September 1, 2021 through December 31, 2021, at which time DPR will evaluate the times and future needs.

  • Monday, 2:30 p.m. - 10 p.m.
  • Tuesday, 7 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, 2:30 p.m. - 10 p.m.
  • Thursday, 7 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
  • Friday, 2:30 p.m. - 10 p.m.
  • Saturday, 2:30 p.m. - 10 p.m.
  • Sunday, 7 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
