DGSL Volunteer Expectations
Position: Durham Girls Soccer League Volunteer
Purpose: To help facilitate a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable experience for a group of youth athletes, while they learn individual and team match skills, sportsmanship and fair play.
Responsibilities
- Preside over all scheduled team practices and matches; provide alternate approved coverage when unable to attend a practice or match
- Adhere to City of Durham, DPR, and league policies, procedures, and objectives
- Maintain and keep track of DPR equipment
- Set a positive example for participants and parents to follow
- Communicate league and match rules to parents, keep parents informed, provide schedules, and assist with managing player and parent behavior
- Communicate with league coordinator, read emails, return phone calls; bring issues to the attention of DPR staff before they escalate
- Coach a team of youth athletes with a focus on skill development, safety, fair play, sportsmanship, and fun
- To respect the rights, dignity, ability and worth of every person, including opponents, other coaches, officials, administrators, parents, athletes, and spectators
- Conduct oneself in a dignified manner relating to emotions, language, attitude and actions
Qualifications
- Desire to work with children
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Patience, maturity, and dependability
- Sound character, strong morals, values and personal ethics
- Available one night per week and each Saturday morning for the duration of the season

- Completed background check and volunteer application
- Signed coaches job description
- Attend the coach’s meeting
