Wheels Roller Skating Rink
Opening 2024!
Project Updates
Building
The skating rink facility needs updates and renovations to bring it up to life safety code and ADA accessibility standards. Through the Request for Proposals (RFP) process, the City is in the process of hiring a firm to repair the skating facility. As of the February 20 City Council Work Session, City Council approved the selection of a firm to provide design and construction administration services to implement accessibility, code, life safety, risk and deferred maintenance improvements necessary to reopen the facility. Contractors will be on site soon to begin this work.
The timeline for completion has been pushed 5 months due to longer deliver time for necessary electrical components. The estimated opening is now Summer 2024.
Operations
The City has drafted a separate RFP for the operation of the skating rink facility. With help of the Wheels Roller Rink Residents Committee (WRRRC), guiding principles representing the community’s values, interests, and needs were used to develop scoring criteria for the RFP. A representative from the WRRRC helped score bids for groups interested in operating the skating rink. As of May 2023, the City is in contract negotiations with an operator.
