About Rock Quarry Park Event Space

Rock Quarry Park is a unique park spanning approximately six acres. Its proximity to I-85 and downtown Durham make it the event space within the park an ideal location to host community festivals and events.


Special events that choose to utilize this space will enjoy many special features including:Rock Quarry Park Event Space

  • 40’ x 40’ concrete pad for easy stage set-up
  • 10’ wide paved loop equipped with individual electrical hook-ups
  • Grading and drainage to allow for usage after rain events
  • Limited access points, to enable ticketed events and crowd control
  • Onsite electrical and water connections

Reservations can be made in person, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at our Administrative Offices located at 400 Cleveland Street or you can fill out the request form and we will enter your request and contact you.

Rental Times

  • Available daily from 5 a.m. until 1 a.m. 
  • Sound amplification is permitted only between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m.

The facility will be closed for reservations on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.


Organizers must ensure that their event plan includes adequate arrangements for parking. There are twenty-eight regular parking spaces, three ADA parking spaces, and six bike parking stations within the Rock Quarry Park site. Large events will need to secure additional parking off-site in order to hold their event.

Alcohol Information

Alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited except when permits to serve such beverages are obtained from Durham Parks and Recreation and/or the State ABC Board. Permits can be found at the ABC Commission website.

Events in which alcohol will be served are required to hire event security through the Durham Police Department. Renters are responsible for contacting the Durham Police Department to obtain information and to schedule officers for their event. Payment is due in cash, to the officer(s) at the beginning of the event. Renters should contact Officer Monte Sutherland at (919) 943-7370 to arrange security.

A certificate of liability insurance must be provided to Durham Parks and Recreation no later than 15 days prior to event. The insurance must show general liability insurance with an alcohol/liquor rider for at least $1,000,000, naming the City of Durham as an additional insured. The certificate of insurance must have an original signature covering the date of your event. Insurance can be obtained from any insurance company (Ex. WedSafe, Travelers Insurance, State Farm, etc.).
