    Discover the beauty and charm of Lake Lure on a covered boat tour. Listen to the legends of the lake and learn about the natural and cultural history about Lake Lure. As we enjoy the boat tour, we will have a box lunch. We will stop for breakfast on the way. (Cost for breakfast is not included in the price). We will depart from Northgate Mall in front of the Sears Auto Center at 7:00 a.m.

  3. After Hours Guided Paddle

    July 19, 2019, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM @ Lake Michie Boating Area

    Enjoy a private evening on Lake Michie with this After Hours Guided Paddle. We will paddle canoes and kayaks after closing and enjoy a sunset over the lake. DPR Outdoor Recreation will provide the equipment; you bring weather-appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes. All children under 16 must be accompanied by a participating adult. Registration is required for this program.

  6. One Giant Leap: 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11

    July 20, 2019, 9:30 PM - 11:30 PM @ West Point on the Eno

    On July 20th, 1969 Neal Armstrong became the first human to walk on the moon. Join Durham Parks and Recreation 50 years later for an evening of fun and learning! Visit the Environmental Education Pavilion to meet with NASA ambassadors and other local experts to learn about what it took to get to the moon, and take in views of the night sky from the meadow! This event is free and open to all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

  10. A Kid's Life: The Daily Grind and Flour Power

    We have used mills to grind grain into flour since Biblical times. Come learn the ins and outs of milling and sample bread baked with flour ground at West Point. Interactive drop-in program, no registration required. Adults must stay with their children, and are encouraged to participate.

    With each new season, the flora of our forests and fields change. Join us on a season-specific hike to learn plant identification skills, enjoy several tastings, and the historic uses of our native plants. Lead by Marie Crock, an ecologist, and Kenneth McCoury, a member of the Cultural Heritage staff, you will be sure to enjoy your tasty and educational hike through West Point. All participants must bring at least 32 ounces of water and wear appropriate clothing. Minors must be accompanied by a registered adult.
