2022-2023 Trail Repair Project

Repaving of the existing asphalt on various trails throughout Durham began Spring 2022. The trails are being repaved to fix cracking, potholes, and minor drainage issues and add a center dashed line. While under construction, portions of the trails will be closed until complete. Construction is expected to be completed Spring 2023.  Additional sections of City trails may be repaired if project funding allows, and we will keep the community updated on those details.

For additional information about this project, visit the City of Durham Public Works page and check out the 2022-2023 Trail Repair Project Map.

Currently Closed:

  • American Tobacco Trail (Dunhill to NC 54) - Detour Map
  • Warren Creek Trail (Horton Road to Stadium Drive)
  • Stadium Drive Trail (select panels of concrete are being repaired and active construction areas should be avoided. Complete closures of the trail is not expected)

Re-opened:

  • Renaissance Parkway Side Path (NC 741 to Fayetteville Road)
  • Ellerbee Creek Trail (between W. Murray Ave and Lavender Ave)
  • Ellerbee Creek Trail (Stadium Drive to Club Boulevard)

Re-opened (Awaiting Re-striping):

The trails listed below are recently repaved and open, but await striping which will cause temporary (a few hours) closures during active work.

  • S. Ellerbee Creek Trail (Club Boulevard to Trinity Avenue)
  • W. Ellerbee Creek Trail (Albany Street to Maryland Avenue)
  • Rock Quarry Spur Trail/Vietnam Veteran Living Memorial Trail (Rock Quarry Park to W. Murray Avenue)
  • New Hope Creek Trail (in Old Chapel Hill Road Park)
  • Rocky Creek Greenway (Dakota Street to American Tobacco Trail)
