Westover Park
The dilapidated Maryland Avenue Bridge in Westover Park is being removed! Removing this closed bridge will improve the overall appearance and safety of the park as well as daylight the stream.
Construction begins May 15 and is expected to be completed by September 2023. During construction, a detour route for West Ellerbee Creek Trail is available. Pay close attention to detour and bike dismount area signs while on the trail.
Beyond construction, removal of the bridge will not impact use of West Ellerbee Creek Trail.
Westover Park is a 1.8 acre park located in West Central Durham. This park offers a playground, picnic tables, and a grill.
Public Art
Artists: JP Trostle + YouthWork Interns
Completed: July 2019
The City of Durham’s Cultural and Public Art Program worked with JP Trostle, a local Durham artist, and six youth interns from YouthWork for their summer five-week internship project to design and install a temporary public art project in Westover Park and West Ellerbee Creek Trail. The identified locations within the park and trail are the paved circle on the West Ellerbee Creek Trail near the parking for Westover Park.
