Park History

The heirs of Richard Wright donated 17 acres for a park on Anderson Street (Wrightwood Park) in 1941, after a Works Progress Administration project had opened and extended the street to allow for new development. It was Richard Wright who donated funding to establish a school for neglected children in Durham, which later was named the Wright School.
