  2. Individual Expedition: The Animalympics!

    Go active outdoors with your family in Durham's Parks while learning and practicing animal movements in the Animalympics! Pick up an activity sheet from the dropbox at Indian Trail Park anytime over the weekend. Pre-registration required. Please note this is a self-guided program and will not be led by DPR staff.

  3. Mill Open House Morning Session

    May 22, 2021, 9:30 AM - 11:15 AM @ West Point on the Eno - West Point Mill

    Come explore the West Point Mill. While visiting, you might just catch one of our Millers grinding corn or wheat. No matter what, you will love getting to chat with our staff about the West Point Community, the history of the mill, and the Eno River. If you would like to take home a bag of our ground products, a donation to benefit the Durham Parks Foundation is encouraged. Once you are registered, you are welcome to come by anytime during the program hours. Building occupancy will be limited to align with COVID guidelines, masks will be required, and social distancing will be enforced.

  4. Bike Rodeo

    May 22, 2021, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM @ Walltown Park - Basketball Courts

    This program is a collaboration between DPR and Durham Police Department geared for youth to learn how to safely ride their bikes. Stations will be set up and instructed by Durham Police Department personnel on basic bike maintenance, how to properly brake, overall bike safety while riding your bike, and fitting your helmet and bike properly for use. Participants are asked to bring their own bikes. If a child does not have a bike, a used reconditioned bike from Durham Bicycle Cooperative will be provided for the youth to borrow at the rodeo. Each participant will receive a free helmet from NCDOT Bicycle and Pedestrian Divisions’ Helmet Initiative Program. Participants should wear closed-toed shoes and comfortable clothing. Registration is required and space is limited.

  5. Explore Nature Drop-In Hours

    May 22, 2021, 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM @ West Point on the Eno - Environmental Education Pavilion

    Explore West Point on the Eno as you may have never before! Enjoy hands-on nature and science activities and take on a hike along the nearby trails! No cost, but pre-registration is required for this program. Youth participants must be accompanied by a registered adult. Please note that everyone must be pre-registered individually in order to participate.

  6. Leigh Farm Park Tour

    Take a guided tour of Leigh Farm Park. You will learn about the families who lived here, their work, and life on a middle-class plantation. Venture inside the historic farmhouse while also visiting the slave cabin, speakeasy, and the Leigh Family Cemetery.

    Take a guided tour of West Point on the Eno's historic buildings and grounds. While visiting the West Point Mill, McCown-Mangum House, and Hugh Mangum Museum of Photography, you will hear stories about the people who lived, worked, and played here.

    Go behind the scenes with one of our Millers to get a tour of the West Point mill works, a grinding demonstration, and a bit of mill history. If you’d like to take home a bag of our cornmeal, grits, or wheat flour, a donation to benefit the Durham Parks Foundation is encouraged. Group sizes are limited to 14 participants, masks will be required, and social distancing will be enforced.
