Explore Northgate Park with a self-guided wellness activity for the whole family! Practice being present and enjoying the outdoors through kid-friendly mindfulness activities. Pick up an activity sheet from the dropbox at the park anytime over the weekend to follow the mindfulness trail in the park. Pre-registration is required. Please note this is a self-guided program and will not be led by DPR staff.

Come explore the West Point Mill. While visiting, you might just catch one of our Millers grinding corn or wheat. No matter what, you will love getting to chat with our staff about the West Point Community, the history of the mill, and the Eno River. If you would like to take home a bag of our ground products, a donation to benefit the Durham Parks Foundation is encouraged. Once you are registered, you are welcome to come by anytime during the program hours. Building occupancy will be limited to align with COVID guidelines, masks will be required, and social distancing will be enforced.

Enjoy a day in the park with your furry friend! Join us for the Canine Field Day, where you and your dog will have an opportunity to participate in a Hyperflite Skyhoundz Dog Disc State Championship Distance/Accuracy and Freestyle competitions. Pre-registration is required for each dog competing. Each registered dog can have one handler and one spectator. For information about Skyhoundz competitions check their website at Skyhoundz.com. Spectators will be limited to ensure we comply with all local and state COVID restrictions.

They say baseball is America’s pastime, but what about fishing? Americans have been fishing for as long as anyone can remember, but they were using cane poles, linen line, and eyeless hooks. Try your hand at fishing, 19th century style! Come alone or bring the whole gang, and we’ll set you up with the all the gear you’ll need to fish. We will host short hands-on workshops near the West Point dam so you will know how to prepare your tackle. Registration is required for anyone in attendance.
